Let’s talk about the bikini area. The bush, the magic carpet- whatever you want to call it. The girl is sensitive.

Between razor burn, razor bumps, itching, and just general skin sensitivity and redness, we can totally understand why some of you have ditched the razor completely and turned to other methods of removing down there hair.

Waxing, sugaring, and laser hair removal are all great options. But, they’re all pretty expensive too. So, to shave or to wax? That’s always the big question.

Don’t get us wrong, we love a good alternative hair removal method, but we’re not ready to knock the traditional shaving method quite yet.

Shaving gets such a bad rap. Especially when it comes to taking care of the bikini area. But in reality, so many people struggle with shaving down there because they forget that shaving is A PROCESS.

It’s not just grabbing your razor and going to town. Oh no, no, no. We know from experience just how much maintenance and self care this special area requires.

So, we’re sharing our complete guide full of tips and tricks on how to take care of your bikini area. Let’s get into it.

How To Take Care Of Your Bikini Area

Is It Bad To Shave Your Bikini Area?

Let’s just bust this skincare myth right now. Shaving the bikini area is totally fine, as long as you complete the proper pre-shave and post-shave steps.

There are quite a few things you can do to avoid getting razor bumps, razor burn, dry skin, and general skin irritation when you remove pubic hair. So, don’t give up shaving just yet.

With our tips below, you’ll be able to save your precious time and money and take care of your bikini area in the convenience of your own home. Wins all around.

P.S: Back in the summer, we talked about how to keep your bikini LINE silky smooth, but that’s just one part of the process. Today, we’re talking about the WHOLE BIKINI AREA.

♡ Step 1: Invest in a good razor.

Your special spot deserves special care. So, don’t even think about shaving down there with an old, gross, or dull blade. Check out The Skinny Confidential’s HOT SHAVE razor and the REPLACEMENT BLADES for all your body shaving needs. Yes, the whole body. Specifically designed for women’s faces, you can really use it anywhere.

♡ Step 2: Trim that bush.

Been a while since your last shave? Don’t just attack that beaver head on. First, trim the bush a bit to take off the first bit of length. Kind-of like doing a little weeding before you hop right on the lawn mower. While we’re at it, feel free to steal your SO’s Manscaped Weedwacker for this task. Use this link for 20% off and learn more here.

This will make for a much easier and cleaner shave, increase your visibility while shaving (because you NEED to be able to see what’s going on down there), and reduce the overall wear and tear on your razor. Not to mention, it will drastically speed up the whole shaving process.

♡ Step 3: Exfoliate the area.

Exfoliation is a key part of taking care of your bikini area. It removes dead skin and debris, making for a smooth and clean shave. All the while, helping to prevent razor bumps, ingrown hairs, and irritation.

Just remember to take care as you choose your method of exfoliation for down there. Because the bikini area is so sensitive, it’s usually best to stick to exfoliating gloves, dry brushing, and loofahs over chemical or crystal exfoliants. Remember to be gentle.

♡ Step 4: Sit in warm water first.

Lukewarm water softens the skin and prepares it for a good, close, and clean shave. Before shaving down there, be sure to sit or at least stand in some lukewarm water for 5-10 minutes. Even the steam from your warm shower will help.

Just trust us when we say, it’s so much easier to shave soft hair rather than stiff, hard hair. This is especially true when it comes to pubes.

♡ Step 5: Always use shaving cream.

For a smooth and non-irritating shave, never ever EVER skip the shaving cream. Using a good quality shaving cream can make all the difference and we 100% back The Skinny Confidential’s HOT SHAVE CREAM. It’s just the most buttery, luxurious shave cream and you can use it anywhere on your body. It’s good for sensitive skin and seriously leaves your skin NOURISHED.

♡ Step 6: Shave with care, paying attention to hair direction.

Here’s another skincare myth we can go ahead and bust. You should always shave in the direction that your hair grows. NOT in the opposite direction like many out there believe. Shaving in the direction that your hair grows drastically reduces irritation to the skin and hair follicles, thus further reducing the risk of ingrown hairs and razor bumps.

Also, shave slowly and shave gently. And remember to rinse your razor often, like after every stroke. It’s not a race, and if it was, the winner would be the person with the softest coochie. So, take your time and be mindful of your pretty little flower down there.

♡ Step 7: Moisturize afterwards

Moisturization is one of those things you need in order to maintain healthy, irritation-free skin down there. Like often, ok.

When it comes to care down there, we’ve found that oils really are the best way to rehydrate the skin both right after shaving and in-between shaves. Oils soak in better, provide more relief from the aftermath of shaving, and soften future hair growth. All wins in our book. But you should know, the HOT SHAVE cream will keep you so hydrated you might not even need the extra moisture. But if you do, we highly recommend the ICE QUEEN face oil, and jojoba or coconut oil.

Don’t give up on shaving down there just yet – just do it properly and take your time.

If your days of shaving are over…we get it. Shaving can be a real bitch sometimes, but try these tips before you totally throw in the towel

You will 100% be amazed at the difference these slight changes to your shaving routine will make. And if you do end up with some ingrown hairs and razor bumps, we got you. Get yourself the HOT MESS ice roller and some Tend Skin to instantly soothe your skin. More on that here.
